Biography

Hailed as a pianist with musically passionate and intellectually deep personality combined with refined virtuosity, Galina Zhukova enjoys a career as soloist, supported by teaching activities and academic research in the field of Musical Thinking. Her recent international engagements included Steinway Series (Belgium), PianoMayenne Festival and Palais d’Europe (France, Strasbourg), St. Petersburg State Philharmonic Hall (Russia), Val Tidone Festival 2016 (Italy), Auditorio Victor Villegas (Spain).  
 
Âorn in St. Petersburg, Russia, she graduated from the St. Petersburg State Conservatory in 2008 (studied with Profs. Oleg Malov, Stanislav Igolinsky, Andrei Ivanovich). In 2012 Galina Zhukova joined the artistic team of Maestro Aquiles Delle Vigne in the International Music Academy (Coimbra, Portugal).
Her artistic career enjoyed a meteoric rise in 1993: that year she played on the stage of the Mariinsky (Kirov) theatre and, for the first time, appeared on Russian TV. In 1993 Galina was awarded a Diploma and a Special Prize at the II International Music Festival “Virtuosos of the Year 2000” and became the absolute winner of The Heiden International Foundation Piano Competition (St. Petersburg).  Her first concert tour was held in the United States: in 1994 she gave a number of solo recitals in Princeton, including one at the Hall of the Institute for Advanced Study. In 1995 she spent a semester in Tsukuba, Japan, where she studied with prominent Bulgarian pianists Konstantin Ganev and Julia Ganev who then worked at the Musashino International Music School in Tokyo. In 1998 she came back to the USA, invited as soloist to take part in the celebration of the 100-th Anniversary of Robert Casadesus, to play Mozart Concerto ¹ 23 with Princeton Chamber Symphony (Mark Laycock, conductor) in Richardson Auditoriom of Princeton University and received favorable reviews. Galina Zhukova's orchestral appearances had included Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra (Vladislav Chernushenko, conductor), «Carpe Diem» Chamber Orchestra (Alexei Nyaga, conductor), St. Petersburg State Academic Symphonic Orchestra, Orquestra Sinfonica de la Region de Mursia. During her studies she took the international spotlight as a prizewinner and special award holder of numerous international piano competitions. Among them are the the VIII International Mayenne Piano Competition (France), Clamo Music Piano Competition (Spain), Paola Baschetti International Piano Competition. Amongst the most recent awards are the First prizes of Premio di Interpretazione Pianistica “Francesco Moscato” (Italy) and Primavera Pianistica International Piano Competition (Belgium).  In June 2016 she took the II-nd prize in Silvio Bengalli International Piano Competition (Italy, Val Tidone). Outside Russia, her solo recitals and orchestra engagements include those in Finland, Poland, Hungary, Austria, France, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Galina Zhukova has been teaching piano as an Associate Professor of St. Petersburg State University (Faculty of Arts, PhD degree in Cultural Studies). She is a permanent member of the Artistic Faculty of Ruza International Piano Festival, held annually by The Gnessina Academy of Music (Moscow) and directed by the legendary Russian pianist Maria Gambarian.
