Biography
Mikhail Leontyev has received excellent education. He has graduated from the Choral College named after Glinka, the St Petersburg Conservatoire where he studied choral and operatic and symphonic conducting. Also, Arnold Katz’s, Vladimir Fedoseyev’s, Mark Gorenstein’s, Victor Yampolsky’s, Jorma Panula’s and other master-classes have given rise to a bright career. Mikhail Leontyev has been coached by such outstanding conductors like People’s Artist of Russia, Prof Ravil Martynov, Tatiana Nemkina, People’s Artist of USSR, Prof Vladislav Chernushenko.
The biography of the young conductor includes impressive facts: performances with the orchestra of the State Cappella of St Petersburg, Federal State Philharmonic, the State Opera and Ballet of the Republic of Komi, Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra Tokyo, Osaka Philharmonic, Symphony Orchestra of St Petersburg, Chamber Orchestra Arpeggione (Moscow), Mikhailovsky Theatre (St Petersburg), State Academic symphony orchestra of Ulyanovsk Philharmonic, Tambov Symphony Orchestra, St Petersburg Music House, Academic symphony orchestra of Moscow Philharmonic, State Academic Symphony orchestra named after Evgeny Svetlanov etc. Mikhail Leontyev has conducted opera and ballet performances at the St Petersburg Conservatoire Theatre and the Hermitage Theatre and in 2008, staged a children’s opera The Little Prince by Banevich, performed in the international opera and ballet festival in Savonlinna (Finland), had concert tours with the Mikhailovsky Theatre in South Korea.
Leontyev has won awards at several international competitions: V Conducting Competition named after Sergei Prokofiev (St Petersburg 2008, Title Winner and the Prize of Yamaha), XV Conducting Competition Min-On (Tokyo, 2009, a Gold Medal, Title of Laureate and the Prize of Asahi), I Open Conducting Competition named after Ilya Musin (Kostroma in 2009, 1st prize and Title of Laureate), I All-Russian Conducting Competition (Moscow 2011, Title of Laureate).
Since 2011, Mikhail Leontyev is Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Tambov Symphony Orchestra.
Since 2012, Mikhail Leontyev is Conductor of the Moscow orchestra Pavel Slobodkin concert hall.
