Biography

He graduated from the St. Petersburg Conservatory and completed postgraduate studies with a specialisation of a choral conductor (classes of F. Kozlov and V. Uspensky). At the same time, he studied composition in the class of Y. Falik. Since 2004, he has been a member of the Union of Composers of Russia.

He is a laureate of the St. Petersburg Government Prize in the field of culture and art.

From 1993 to 2009 he was the director of the Youth Chamber Choir of the Philharmonic Society of St. Petersburg. From 2000 to 2022 – director of the Women's Choir of the Music College named after N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov. Over the years, the ensemble has won 19 Grand Prix at international and all-Russian competitions, participated in prestigious musical projects, recorded a number of CDs, and toured many European countries. Since 2005, he has been the artistic director of the largest international festival of choral art “The Singing World”. Since 2011 – teacher at the St. Petersburg Institute of Culture and director of the institute’s Concert Choir. Since 2012 – teacher at the St. Petersburg Conservatory. Since 2019 – Dean of the Conservatory Faculty of Composition and Conducting. Since 2020, he has been the artistic director of the Conservatory Choir, which under his direction won the First Prize at the All-Russian Choral Festival.

S. Ekimov is a member of the jury and many expert commissions of various Russian and international choral competitions. As a conductor he has performed with the best Russian and foreign choirs. He has written a number of choral compositions and teaching aids. Member of the Union of Concert Artists of Russia, the Interregional Union of Concert Artists, the Association of Folk and Choral Groups of the Guild of Academic Performance of the Russian Musical Union, head of the choral section of the Union of Composers of St. Petersburg.

Since 2004 – a member of the Union of composers of Russia. Sergey Yekimov is an author of choral and orchestral compositions, instrumental and vocal ensembles, spiritual and secular music a cappella, vocal cycles, piano and choral plays for children, music to performances, arrangements for chorus of the Russian national songs, popular melodies, romances and variety songs. His works are on a regular basis played in many cities of Russia and abroad – in Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Ukraine, Armenia, Belarus, Poland, Hungary, Austria, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Holland, Switzerland, China, Taiwan, South Korea, the USA and Japan.
