Biography
Emanuel Abbühl - born in Berne Switzerland - chose early to be a musician and studied with André Lardrot and Heinz Holliger when he received many major awards for wind instruments.
He was invited to join as principal and / or as soloist by the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra , the Boston Symphony , Concertgebouw Orkest Amsterdam, Bayrischer Rundfunk, Budapest Festival Orchestra, Mariinski Orchestra, Osaka Symphony , Singapore Symphony Orchestra , Amsterdam Sinfonietta, Bukarest Symhony , Queensland Philharmonic under V.Gergiev, Sir C.Davis, W.Lutoslawski -his oboeconcerto and performed chamberconcerts with Heinz Holliger, Andras Schiff, Mitsuko Uchida and others.
He was principal oboe of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and 2006 till 2012 principal oboe with the London Symphony Orchestra.
In a review of the Strauss Oboeconcerto with the LSO and V.Gergiev in London he was mentioned as " master of his instrument and musician par excellence".
Since many years he is dedicating one part of his time in teaching - at the Academy of Music in Rotterdam till 2004 , later at the Royal Academy of Music in London and from 2005 is appointed professor at the University of Music and Arts at Mannheim and the Academy of Music in Basel and is a honorary member of the Royal Academy of Music London.
