St. Petersburg State Governor's Symphony Orchestra

About group

This orchestra was founded in 1945 on the basis of Minkh jazz-orchestra. The objective of the orchestra was the popularization of variety music of Soviet composers. This team collaborated with Petrov, Basner, Gavrilin and others.

S. Gorkovenko became the leader of the orchestra in 1978. The conductor introduced some classics of the symphony, opera and ballet in the repertoire of the team.

Over 50 CD-s of complete ballets of Tchaikovsky, symphonies of Hayden, Schumann, Shostakovich and compositions of contemporary composers were recorded under the conduct of Gorkovenko. The orchestra performs regularly in St.Petersburg and goes on tours to Great Britain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and Japan.
